Boca Raton, FL — Whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, or Valenfriend’s Day, diners searching for a delicious and memorable meal should head to Medi Terra in Boca Raton, Florida. This wonderful new restaurant, situated at Royal Palm Place in the former Sapori space, serves a host of mouthwatering dishes from the coastal areas of the Western Mediterranean — Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Co-owners and father-and-son team, Chef Michael Velicu and Daniel Velicu, are passionate about sourcing the best seasonal ingredients from all over the globe; serving inventive and soul-satisfying dishes; and providing diners with a warm and welcoming ambiance at their eatery.
From Monday, February 13, 2023 through Wednesday, February 15, 2023, they will be serving their regular a la carte menu, along with two holiday specials during dinner. All diners will also receive a complimentary glass of sparkling rose wine, during dinner, and complimentary chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert. The dinner specials will be Paella Valencia for Two, $80 (assorted shellfish, marinated grilled chicken, Spanish chorizo, and saffron-infused Bomba rice) and Grilled Branzino for Two, $80 (whole fish, de-boned tableside, served with roasted potatoes and haricots verts).
Chef Michael states, “We look forward to welcoming old friends, who dined at our previous restaurant — Mediterraneo — in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and to meeting new friends, as well.”
Daniel adds, “Opening this restaurant, together, was a lifelong dream. We are proud to be offering our guests a wide selection, of delectable dishes, that represent the best of the Mediterranean.”
Their enticing menu captures the essence, spirit, and flavor of Western Mediterranean cooking, along with Chef Michael’s unique spin on many of the classics. He uses French culinary techniques, that he learned at The French Culinary Institute, where he was taught by a slate of world-renowned chefs, including Jacques Pepin, Andre Soltner, and Alain Sailhac. Daniel is also a seasoned hospitality professional, whose impressive C.V. includes food and beverage management positions at the Waldorf-Astoria and the Conrad Midtown, both in New York City, and at Hilton Hotels, where he lead catering and events as a regional director for the Americas.
It is no surprise that they offer a dozen tantalizing tapas, such as garlic shrimp, $18; filet mignon carpaccio, $18 (served with arugula and shaved Parmesan); ahi tuna tartare, $18 (served with cornichons, cucumbers, and julienne fries); truffle burrata, $14 (served with kumata tomatoes and pomegranate glaze); grilled octopus, $18 (served with house-made hummus, cucumbers, and arugula); and steamed mussels, $20 (with fennel, chorizo, white wine, and cream broth).
While diners can easily make a meal from the tapas section of the menu, there are also many superb entrees at Medi Terra, such as the Loup de Mer Fillet with Crispy Skin, $40 (served with squid ink risotto and confit of wild mushrooms); the Chicken Tajine, $30 (served with olives, preserved lemons, and Ras el Hanout — a blend of a dozen fragrant spices); the Skirt Steak, $40 (served with Greek lemon potatoes and arugula); the Roasted Duck, $46 (half-duck with sauce a l’orange, frisee, and duck fat-roasted fingerling potatoes); the Halibut Fillet, $42 (served with ginger butter beans and clams); and the Spaghetti Carbonara, $32 (with guanciale and Pecorino cheese).
Decadent desserts, which are all imported from Italy, make the perfect ending to every meal. Diners may opt for the Tiramisu, $14; the Lemon Sorbet Flute, $15; the Torta della Nonna, $14 (pastry cream dusted with pine nuts, almonds, and powdered sugar); the Chocolate Temptation Cake, $14 (rich chocolate sponge cake filled with chocolate and hazelnut cream); the Chocolate Tartufo, $12; and the Hazelnut Gelato, $12.
Medi Terra sports a full bar, a selection of unique signature cocktails, and a thoughtful and noteworthy wine list, with most of the vintages from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal and a few options from New Zealand and California.
