Gigi's Tavern Introduces Innovative Five Course Chef's Tasting Menu
BOCA RATON, Fla. Gigi's Tavern at Mizner Park in Boca Raton has introduced a Five Course Tasting Menu that gives guests an opportunity for an extraordinary culinary and dining experience, one that will impress even the most discerning palate.

This unique culinary experience begins when the chef visits your table, removes the menus and inquires if there are any dietary limitations or specific taste preferences. While this creative menu changes every day, following is an example of what was served at a recent tasting:

Sample Menu- Menu Chnges Daily

First Course
Shrimp Kataffi: pan seared and served with a coconut chili sauce

Second Course
Stilton and Watercress Salad: roasted beets, watercress, navel oranges, stilton blue cheese and pistachios tossed in a light vinaigrette

Third Course
Veal Two Ways: veal short ribs with parsnip mashed potatoes and natural jus and veal tenderloin with mashed potatoes, asparagus tips, carrots and port wine sauce

Fourth Course

:: Special Appearance By Alexandre Renoir at Wentworth Gallery- Boca Raton
Where: Wentworth Gallery @ Town Center Mall, Boca Raton
Saturday, October 6, 2007
Time: 6:00 PM
Wentworth Gallery at Town Center Mall, Boca Raton, will offer for acquisition a rare collection of original paintings, drawings, etchings and lithographs by the great masters of the Impressionist era together with one of today's great Impressionist painters, ALEXANDRE RENOIR, great-grandson of PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR. Renoir is scheduled to make two personal appearances during the exhibition and will personalize purchased works.

About Alexandre Renoir:
Alexandre Renoir was born in Cagnes Sur Mer, in the south of France, where his great-grandfather spent the last twelve years of his life. The family moved to Canada when Alexandre was young, and there he grew up surrounded by art and artists. While the Renoir family includes many cinematic greats (Jean Renoir, a notable film director; Pierre Renoir, a renowned actor; Claude Renoir Jr., a pre-eminent director of photography and his daughter Sophie, a talented actress), Alexandre is the first descendant to pursue the fine arts.

"Art is a journey, with no final destination, and this is a wonderful stop on my travels," said Alexandre Renoir. "It's an honor to display my drawings, etchings and paintings along with the work of my great-grandfather and his contemporaries."

:: Intermediate Hike with Mosaic
Where: Jonathan Dickenson State Park
Sunday, October 7, 2007
Time: 10:00 AM
This trail is one of the more rugged and rustic trails within an easy drive. The distance will be about 8 miles, depending on the route, and hikers of all experience levels are encouraged to join us. Plant communities here include pine Flatwoods and sand pine scrub. Wildlife abounds; on a previous hike here we spotted a gopher tortoise, an armadillo, and some scrub jays. The terrain is far different from what we are used to here in South Florida. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the woods with new friends. We will climb "Hobe Mountain", the highest elevation in Martin County, to an observation tower for a view of Jupiter Island and the Intracoastal Waterway. After returning to the trail head, we will stop at a nearby restaurant for dinner on the way home.

Where: Jonathan Dickenson State Park, between Hobe Sound and Jupiter, Florida. 561‑546‑2771

Directions: Meet at the trailhead at 10:00 am, just inside the entrance to the park. Take I-95 north to Jupiter exit #59-A (Indiantown Road), go east to US 1, then north (left) for about 5 miles. The park entrance is on the left.

Carpool: Meet at the Holiday Inn on Glades Road (not the one on Sheridan!). Take I-95 to Glades Road (Exit 39) in Boca Raton, and go west. Go under I-95, and make the first U-turn, to come back east on Glades. The Holiday Inn is south (right) side of Glades and west I-95, at 1950 Glades Road. Meet in the parking lot at 9:00 am. We will leave at 9:15 am sharp!

Bring: Lots of water! For safety reasons, everyone will be required to bring 2 liters of water on the trail. If you don't have water bottles and a belt pack, a two-liter soda bottle and a book pack will do very nicely. Also bring sunscreen, hiking boots or good sneakers, brown bag lunch and snacks, and a daypack to carry it all. Bring money for dinner and carpool and/or park admission ($3.25 per car).

Cost: $3 for Mosaic members, $8 for non-members, includes trail mix and refreshments at the trailhead.

For more information, please call Alyse Thompson at 954-240-5197 or Jimmy Rogers at 954-695-1026, No RSVP is required.

:: Herald Hunt with Mosaic
Where: South Beach
Sunday, October 7, 2007
Time: 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM
When: Sunday, October 21, from 11:30 am till 4:00 pm. We'll meet at 11:30 so that we can find each other, then start the hunt at 11:45. Optional breakfast beforehand will be at 9:30 am.

What: Join Mosaic as we scurry through the streets of South Beach in search of tricky clues, all of which lead up to one final clue. With the event taking place on South Beach, this year's Hunt has a distinctive Pre-Deco feel. Players will join emcee Dave The Sting Barry for an afternoon of games, thrills and plenty of laughs. There's really no community event quite like The Herald Hunt. It brings together people who share a sense of humor, a spirit of adventure and thought patterns that defy description. We will wander around town looking for elaborate clues which have been set up by The Herald staff, and world renowned humorist Dave Barry. The first three groups to solve the final clue will receive a valuable prize. Check out their website at http://www.heraldhunt.com.

Where: South Beach, in front of the Jackie Gleason Theatre at 1700 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Mosaic members will gather and meet in front of the theater**. Park anywhere you can nearby. There is a parking garage across the street from the theater and several other parking areas nearby.

**If you would like to meet for breakfast to discuss our strategy and how the clues work, meet at 9:30am at Balans restaurant at 1022 Lincoln Rd. (between Lenox & Michigan Aves.), Miami Beach, 305-534-9191. You can view menu and prices at http://www.balans.co.uk/miami%20pdfs/miamibreak.pdf. NOTE: If you are coming to breakfast, please RSVP so that I can get a big enough table.

Directions: From the north: Take I-95 south to I-195 (exit #4) east to Miami Beach. Go over the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195), and once you cross onto Miami Beach, head south on Alton Road. Make a left on 17th street. From the south: Take I-95 North to I-395 (exit #2D) to Miami Beach, over the MacArthur Causeway and take Alton Road north. Turn right on 17th Street. There is a parking lot on the right just before Washington Ave., and the Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts is on the NW corner of 17 Street and Washington Ave, next to the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Free, for members & non-members! Bring your friends. Bring money for breakfast if you're coming (above).

It is important that everyone bring the Special Hunt section of the October 21 issue of the Sunday Herald, as well as a pencil and paper. It is helpful if a few of us have a portable radio and calculator too. If possible, buy the Sunday bulldog edition which is available at noon on Saturday, at CVS, Publix, etc, and study the entire section. Clues are hidden in the form of fake advertisements, articles, and anything else in the magazine. It will also be helpful to familiarize yourself with the more obvious clues, listed on the clue page.

Contact Dawn Levy at 305-968-1435 for more information. No RSVP is necessary. Just show up on Sunday for a great day!

All decisions and selections are then made in the kitchen. Each course is individually presented at the table by the chef who describes the dish.

Intermezzo
Peach, mojito and blackberry cabernet sorbet trio

Third Course
Veal Two Ways: veal short ribs with parsnip mashed potatoes and natural jus and veal tenderloin with mashed potatoes, asparagus tips, carrots and port wine sauce

Fourth Course
New England Style Swordfish: grilled swordfish served over mashed potatoes with a creamy New England clam broth

Fifth Course
Three-Layer Cheesecake: layers of chocolate, vanilla and coffee, covered in fresh berries

The Chef will provide wine pairing suggestions for appropriate courses.

Gigi's Tavern…/ More Information

The Five Course Tasting Menu is served on Thursdays from 5 to 10 p.m. but can often be requested with reservations on other days. The cost is $55 per person; plus $20 per person with wine pairing. The entire table must participate.

Gigi's Tavern is located at beautiful Mizner Park in Boca Raton. With indoor and outdoor seating, live music and a popular happy hour, Gigi's welcomes guests with a warm atmosphere and deliciously prepared contemporary American cuisine created by Executive Chef Morris Spielvogel. :: Havdallah & Party with Mosaic
Where: Fort Lauderdale Beach Home of Ken Fisher
Saturday, October 13, 2007
Time: 7:30 PM
Mosaic invites you and your friends to Ken Fisher's lovely oceanfront home for a Havdallah service, followed by an indoor/outdoor party on the pool deck right in front of the Atlantic Ocean. The ambiance and atmosphere will be perfect for a Saturday night party. There will be a beautiful, brief, candlelit Havdallah service at 8:00 including lots of singing, followed by mingling, socializing, and partying for the rest of the night. Spread the word and invite all your single Jewish friends. Married couples are welcome too. Rain or shine.

Where: At the beach home of Mosaic member Ken Fisher, 3008 North Atlantic Blvd, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308. As there is no parking on the street, please use the public parking garage down the block (see directions below).

Directions: Take I-95 to Oakland Park Blvd. Go east on Oakland Park Blvd (heading towards the beach). Go past Federal Hwy, and after you go over the Intracoastal Bridge make a right turn at the first light (which is A1A or Ocean Blvd). Go one block and make the first right turn (this is NE 30 St but the hurricane destroyed the sign). Make the next right onto NE 33 Ave and public parking is on the left side (be sure to pay the meter which takes dollars or credit cards and put ticket in car window). Walk back to corner of NE 30 St and head east (left) two short blocks till you dead end at the beach (this is North Atlantic Blvd; not sure if the sign has been replaced yet). Turn left and it is the third house on the right.

BYOB. Ken Fisher will be donating some alcoholic beverages, but if you'd like to contribute by bringing a bottle as well, that would be much appreciated. Drinking is permitted at Mosaic events, but Mosaic is not allowed to provide alcohol. It's a good idea to bring your own, especially if you have a specific preference. Although some very nice hors d'ouerves will be provided, you could also bring an appetizer. Mosaic does not keep strictly Kosher, but please don't bring anything that's obviously non-Kosher. There will be a bartender available to mix and serve drinks for the party which will be a nice added touch.

Cost: $15 for Mosaic members, $20 for non-members, includes soft drinks, mixers, and hot & cold hors d'oeuvres. This party is for adults only. If you join Mosaic Outdoor Club for the first time this evening, pay only $10 for the party, in addition to the $30 annual dues.

No RSVP is necessary, but it would be better to know that you're coming so that we can be sure to have enough food. Bring lots of friends, and be ready for a great time. For more info, contact Donna Karen Rosenblum at 954-562-0335, Paul Guilbert at 954-816-0012 or Renee Guilbert at 954-727-3446

22nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival
Go Around The World In 32 Days And Never Leave The Tropics
The 22nd Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival
A Vacation Form Ordinary Film

Recently named one of the top destination film festivals in the United States by Movie Maker Magazine and the highest rated film festival in the State of Florida by the Florida Arts Council, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) attracts thousands of movie lovers each fall. Now in its 22nd year, the annual fest will reel out over 175 films from around the globe between October 15 and November 11.

There are over 60 feature films. The balance are thought provoking documentaries, clever shorts, filmmaker tribute films and on Saturday morning's...family films. Filmmaker and celebrity sightings create an aura of excitement around the month-long cinematic event. Film Premieres and exclusive screenings, as well as parties and receptions aboard yachts and at some of Fort Lauderdale's trendiest clubs and restaurants, offer opportunities to experience this tropical paradise and to meet both moviemakers and actors alike.

Over the years, FLIFF has consistently programmed some of the finest films, many of which have become major box office hits and some that have been nominated or received an Oscar® including Pedro Almodovar's Volver & Bad Education, Mrs. Henderson Presents, The Matador, Being Julia and many more.

Some of FLIFF's special guests over the years have included Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ashley Judd, Elisabeth Shue, Michael Caine, Ben Affleck, Tim Roth, Maria Bello, and renowned directors including Martin Scorceses, Robert Wise, and Peter Bogdanovich. FLIFF offers a variety of Group Travel Packages which include hotel, festival discounts, car rental discounts, and transportation to Fort Lauderdale. FLIFF's host hotel and hub of activity is Gallery One. Fort Lauderdale's premiere Intracoastal 5-star, all-suite boutique hotel is conveniently located just 2 blocks from the beach. The hotel offers individual discounted room rates and 2 for 1 ticket vouchers to attend FLIFF. You may even run into a star or two and some of our filmmakers. And, for a change of pace, take the water taxi from the hotel to FLIFF's year-round art house, Cinema Paradiso, one of the festival's three theatre venues, located just around the corner from renowned Las Olas Blvd. Other theatre venues include Nova University's Miniachi Theatre in Davie and Regal Cypress Creek in Pompano Beach.

Tickets to FLIFF range from $8 to $10 for films. Tickets for major film events, like Opening Night and Closing Night Films & Parties, vary and are reasonably priced. Festival Fast Passes and year-round memberships offer discounted rates and even some free films. http://www.fliff.com

:: 22nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, October 15 - November 11, 2007
Saturday, October 20, 2007

:: 7th Annual Signature Grand Ghoul
Where: Signature Grand in Davi
Monday, October 22, 2007
7th Annual Signature Grand Ghoul - The Hottest Halloween Party in Broward
The planning for our Seventh Annual Signature Grand Ghoul on Monday, October 22 at the Signature Grand in Davie, is well under way. Last year our host, former Miami Dolphin great OJ McDuffie, secured more Dolphin players & NFL Alumni than ever before. We are once again anticipating another star-studded roster of attendees at this year's event.
The annual Halloween costume gala presented by UAIC (United Automobile Insurance Company) is a fundraising party which benefits The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and OJ McDuffie's Catch 81 Foundation. Last year's event raised over $91,000 to help the children in our communities.
"We are excited with the announcement of UAIC as our presenting sponsor for this year's event. Beau Parrillo has always been active in helping the children of our community and we are honored that he and his company chose the Signature Grand Ghoul to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and the OJ McDuffie Foundation." said Rich Ouellette, Senior Area Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.
Courtney Young of Big 105.9 radio will be returning as Master of Ceremonies. When it came time to present our 2006 Live Auction, the feature item was two tickets to the 2007 Super Bowl at Dolphins Stadium, a package which raised $6,500. This year's Live Auction will include a trip for two including airfare courtesy of Southwest Airlines, 4 night hotel stay & tickets to the 2008 Super Bowl held in Glendale, Arizona.
On hand at last year's event were several current and alumni Miami Dolphins including Channing Crowder, Darrian Barnes, Twan Russell, Terry Kirby, Shawn Wooden, Wes Welker, Mark Higgs, KiJana Carter and local hero, Bernie Kosar. Guests and team members had an opportunity to rub elbows and some lucky party goers even got to dance with their favorite players. The guests and players (many of whom stayed to the very end) were having such a great time that the Signature Grand extended the entertainment for an additional hour.
Prior to the party in the Grand Ballroom, a VIP reception was held for the event's benefactors. It was a great opportunity for those most responsible for making this event a success. Our sponsors were able to get photos with players, Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, the Florida Panthers' Stanley C. Panther and Miami Heat's Burnie.
Local TV affiliates for ABC, NBC and FOX, including Fins TV and Insider Media Live as well as many other local media outlets, were on hand to cover the event. Spectacular food and beverages were provided by Sysco and Premier Beverage. Continuous entertainment was courtesy of Elegant Occasions and Southern Audio Visual and this year the mansion will lavishly decorated by Fairytale Designs.
"This was an unbelievable party. My guests and I started planning our costumes for this year's event right after last years", said O.J. "We all had such a great time and knowing that we raised so much money for the children of the community makes it even better."
The Chairpersons for this year's Signature Grand Ghoul are Lisa Catterson of Imperial Body & Design, Cary Goldberg of Stiles Corporation and Angela Garcia of EventsII Remember.
For more information on sponsorship opportunities or anything else pertaining to this year's Signature Grand Ghoul, please visit www.GrandGhoul.org. or contact Rich Ouellette at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, 954-592-0832.

:: 22nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, October 15 - November 11, 2007
Friday, October 26, 2007
