:: Mosaic Scuba Diving Trip

Where: Dania Beach

Time: 7:30 AM

It's Hammertime!!! Join Mosaic Outdoor Club of South Florida to scuba dive on Scuba Emporium's beautiful dive boat, the Hammertime. We'll do a two-tank dive and explore the wonderful underwater world of Florida. This is a scuba boat, but there will be snorkeling available for non-divers. Weather permitting, we will dive the "Third Reef": It's a drift dive over a reef that has abundant sea life, great coral formations with cut and grove coral: Big animals and lobsters abound. The third reef is about a mile from shore and depth ranges from 50 to 70 foot. Reef dives are done as drift dives as there is usually a mild northbound current. It is a double reef with a 50 to 75 foot wide sand flat between the two and a nice 5 to 10 foot ledge on the inside. Expect to see cobia and grouper and in the deeper portion of the third reef look for lobster, grouper and hogfish! For our second dive, we will explore "The Caves": A shallow series of ledges located about 2 miles north from the Port Everglades Inlet. A system of 16 moorings mark a broken ledge varying in depth from 20 to 30 feet. This area makes for an easy second after the deeper early morning dive. The ledges on the inside of the reef rise more than four feet from the sand floor, creating tunnels which make great hiding places for critters like lobster, crabs and moray eels.

Directions: From the North: Take I-95 to Griffin Road (exit #23) in Dania, and head east to US 1, turn right (south) to Dania Beach Blvd, turn left (east). From the South: Take I-95 to Stirling Road (exit #22) in Hollywood, and head east to US 1, turn Left (North) to Dania Beach Blvd, turn right (east). Dania Beach Boulevard will dead end at A1A, and you will follow the signs to head north into the Seafair Marina (not John U Lloyd). The Marina is on the Bay side. Find the Hammertime boat.

Bring: Your dive gear and yourself, clothes to change for the weather, Hat, sunscreen, Certification Card (MANDATORY for all scuba divers), and money for lunch after the dive. To reserve any scuba equipment you may require, please call Scuba Emporium, 4678 N. University Dr., Lauderhill, at 954-572-2642 (When reserving equipment ask for Carolyn and mention the Mosaic Dive trip on July 29, 2007).
Cost: $55 members, $60 non-members. If you will not be scuba diving, but just want to go for the ride, or to snorkel, you will get a $15 discount. It is customary to give the dive boat captain a tip if you think he did a good job ($10.00 per person is typical for tips). $20.00 extra if you need tanks. Bring money for parking as well.
